we had a very interesting laboratory class today.
we examined fruit flies Drosophila. ^^
there are the normal wild types.
as well as nine mutated types.
wing mutants.
dumpy. vestigial. wrinkled.
body colour mutants.
ebony. yellow.
eye colour mutants.
wild. sepia.
bristle mutants.
singed.
multiple mutants.
carmine and cut. white, miniature, and forked. curly, plum, diachaete, and stubble.
we are also "forced" to "volunteer" into participating in a project study conducted by the Department of Otolaryngology (what is this? o.O), titled "A Genome-wide Association Study on Atopy and Allergic Diseases in Singaporean Chinese".
we had a salty mouth wash.
the project study wants our cells.
their main objective is to get our DNA genome.
we also had a skin prick test.
the project study also wants our reactivity (immune system) towards four different irritants + negative control + positive control.
dust mites. pollen grains. saline solution. etc.
my mouth tasted like sea water.
my skin itched like crazy.
but pretty interesting nonetheless! (:
