episode: -> STEPS #1. <-
went for the Summer Programme (SP) to University of New South Wales (UNSW) group interview early this morning.
the questions asked, the answers responded, and what is generally expected of us (if chosen), are pretty interesting.
the chances of getting selected are slim though.
since demand >> supply.
(economics!)
but as compared to the Students' Exchange Programme (SEP), which probably has alot stiffer competition.
went for the NUS Career Centre for the STEPS #1 programme workshop.
three different sessions of two hours each.
i almost fell asleep halfway through the programme. x_x
it was nevertheless entertaining at times.
i did learn something valuable out of it.
especially that of the last session: (Make An Impression!) "Communicate Well - It's Your Asset".
the in-charge instructor, Cammie, was very impressionable.
she mentioned that many a times when we are communicating with one another..
.. how many times are we actually LISTENING very carefully to what others are saying?
are we good LISTENERS ourselves??
she went on to read out four questions ONCE only.
her main purpose is to test us on our listening skills.
and also our ability to assume, which may lead to misunderstandings at times.
(reading the questions are very different from listening to the questions though)
question #1:
there are some months with 30 days, and also some months with 31 days.
how many month(s) is/are there with 28 days?
question #2:
the doctor prescribed me 3 pills.
i was instructed to consume one pill at every half an hour interval.
how much time was spent before i finished all the pills?
question #3:
it was a very cold day.
i have a matchstick.
i am in a cold room with a heater, an oil lamp, and a stove.
which one do i light first?
question #4:
how many animals of each species did Moses bring up to the Ark?
(do you more or less have an answer for each question?)
answer #1:
12 months.
every month has 28 days.
X assumption: 1 month (February). Xanswer #2:
1 hour.
the first pill is consumed, followed by the second pill half an hour later, and finally the third pill an hour later.
X assumption: 1.5hours. Xanswer #3:
matchstick.
you have to light the matchstick first before you can light anythnig else!
X assumption: any others besides matchstick. Xanswer #4:
0 animals.
NOAH is the one who brought 2 animals of each species up into the Ark, not MOSES.
X assumption: Moses is Noah. Xlisten very carefully, always listen with a heart, and use 100% (if not 120%) attention.
